  Let's Look Beyond Our Borders

Let's look beyond our borders.There is a world out there beyond Bedford County and business too! I think sometimes we get so involved in our daily routines of family, work, school, etc. that we get target fixation and can't see north, south ,east or west from where we are. Maybe we should, as members of the business community and as a chamber, look around for opportunities to our south, north, east and west. We can't ignore that the road doesn't drop off at the Maryland, Fulton or Somerset lines. For example, Allegany County (MD) Chamber in Cumberland is not far away linked by busy Route 220 with areas for business we probably have not explored. Fulton County to our east, Somerset to the west, you get the idea. I believe a good place for us to start is with our chambers to break down whatever barriers we all have to collaboration and hopefully more market opportunities. Let's get our chambers together and at least explore. Those opportunities result in more members to join the BCCC which can only strengthen our organization-and theirs.

I hope we will at least take a look beyond and consider the possibilities. I leave you with a quote from Capt. Sir Basil Liddell Hart, Thoughts on War, 1944  "The only thing harder than getting a new idea into the military mind is to get an old one out." I hope we would be more open and look beyond our borders. Let's not do it because that’s the way we always have. Have a great month.
